UNGA 80
The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly – under the theme Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights. The session will open on 9 September 2025. The high-level General Debate will run from 23–27 September and conclude on 29 September.
The UN General Assembly is the main legislative and policymaking body of the United Nations, it meets to discuss international issues covered by the UN Charter.
In addition to the general debates the general assembly will hold a high-level meeting on the 30th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, and a high-level meeting on the 30th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth.
The sessions come at a pivotal moment to renew global commitment to multilateralism, solidarity and shared action for people and planet.
FEMNET at UNGA 80
FEMNET will engage in the 2025 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, including the one-day high-level meeting commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing+30). Specifically, for this meeting, FEMNET will deliver remarks. To this end, FEMNET has consulted its membership and the wider women’s movement to gather the key messages they would like highlighted in this meeting and will collate the responses to relay during the session. Our engagement provides a platform for FEMNET to amplify the voices and priorities of African women and girls in this space.

High-level Meeting on the 30th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women

Marking the thirtieth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, the UN General Assembly will convene a high-level meeting centered on the theme “Recommitting to, resourcing and accelerating the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.” The meeting will reflect on progress since the landmark 1995 conference in Beijing and highlight achievements, best practices, gaps, and ongoing challenges in advancing gender equality worldwide
