Africa region prepares for CSW65 – February 2021 E-bulletin

The Africa Regional Pre-CSW Expert Consultation Meeting took place on 22nd and 23rd February 2021. African Ministers in charge of Gender and Women’s Affairs convened to consider and adopt the Common African Position on the Status of Women, to be tabled during the 65th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the UN Headquarters in from 15th to 26th March 2021, in a bid to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment for African women and girls. It was then followed by the Ministerial meeting on 26 February 2021. This gave an opportunity to ensure that all member states engage in the CSW preparatory processes for the continent.

The Ministers met under the Theme: “Women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls,” which is 2021’s theme for CSW65.  The Opening Session was broadcast live here 

The meetings were facilitated by the African Union Commission Directorate of Women, Gender and Youth, in collaboration with the UNECA and UN Women, the meeting brought together Ministers responsible for Gender and Women’s Affairs in all AU Member States and their Experts. Other stakeholders present at the meeting were the Regional Economic Communities, AU organs and Specialized Agencies, civil society organizations and among other stakeholders. Click here to read more.
