Theme: Deconstructing Colonization and Advancing Reparations for African Girls and Young Women
Venue: Nairobi, Kenya
Since 2021, FEMNET has organized the African Girls and Young Women Festival as a bold, political, and creative platform to amplify the voices, agency, and leadership of adolescent girls and young women across Africa. The festival provides a space for participants to connect, heal, express themselves, and drive forward a shared feminist vision for justice and transformation. The 2025 edition takes place at a historic moment, aligned with the African Union’s theme: ‘Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations.’ This year’s Festival will serve as a rallying point for African girls and young women to interrogate colonial legacies, reimagine reparations, and centre their power in decolonial feminist movements.
The key activities for the festival are; Feminist Civic Education Sessions grounded in African history, reparations, and decolonial theory, youth Reparations Policy Labs, sisterhood circles & healing spaces and intergenerational Dialogues – bridging feminist generations for shared learning and collective power.
