1. About FEMNET
The African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) is a pan- African, feminist and membership-based network based in Nairobi, Kenya with over 800 individual and institutional members across 50 African countries and in the diaspora. FEMNET envisions a society where African women and girls thrive in dignity and well-being, free from patriarchal and neoliberal oppression and injustices.

2. Background
The Meaningful Engagement – Transformative Action (META) for Structured Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) Dialogue in Kenya is a joint initiative by African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET), the Coalition for Sustainable Development (SDGs Kenya Forum) and Stitching Women Engage for a Common Future International (WECF) with support from the European Union Delegation (EUD) in Kenya. The action is designed to enhance Kenyan civil society organizations’ capacity for accountability, good governance, and inclusive development, and provide institutional platforms for their active involvement in EU-Kenya cooperation between 2024-2027. In specific, the action seeks to.
- Improve and strengthen structured, inclusive and regular dialogue between Kenyan civil society actors, local authorities and the EU, facilitating meaningful and sustained
- Enhance the skills, knowledge, and resources of Kenyan civil society actors including youth and women rights organizations to address common development priorities and promote effective governance.
- Increase information sharing, joint planning, and implementation of initiatives among Kenyan civil society actors to maximize the impact of EU-Kenya cooperation.
The action contains two main components: The Inclusive Dialogue Mechanism and the European Union Youth Sounding Board. The Youth Sounding Board Kenya (YSB) is a team of bold, visionary, and action-driven leaders aiming to challenge the status quo and ensure youth voices shape policies, spark action, and drive real change in EU-Kenya partnerships. Selected from across Kenya, these 15 dynamic innovative leaders between 18- 30 years are passionate about youth engagement, policy influencing and transformative action. They bring fresh ideas, bold perspectives, and unstoppable energy to shape decisions that impact young people’s lives. Guided by the EU Youth Action Plan (2022-2027), the YSB works under three powerful pillars:
- Partnership to Engage: increasing young people’s voices in policy and decision-
- Partnership to Empower: fighting inequalities and providing young people with the skills and tools they need to thrive.
- Partnership to Connect: fostering opportunities for young people to network and exchange with their peers worldwide

3. Objective/Purpose of Assignment
FEMNET is seeking an experienced and dynamic Wellness, Care, and Team-Building Facilitator to lead a full-day session during the Youth Sounding Board meeting. The facilitator will guide the team through restorative, reflective, and connection-building activities that support emotional well-being, interpersonal cohesion, and a renewed sense of collective purpose.
In addition, the facilitator will support the Youth Sounding Board to reflect on its internal dynamics, particularly around inclusivity, representation, equitable participation, accountability to their constituencies, and meaningful engagement in their mandate. The facilitator will create space for open dialogue that strengthens trust, encourages personal and collective responsibility, and ensures all members feel valued and fairly engaged in collective decision-making. The facilitator will help the YSB reflect on:
- How they represent and remain accountable to the diverse youth constituencies they
- How their communication styles and approaches to decision making and dialogue impact inclusion, collaboration, and decision-making.
- How each member’s contributions during their tenure affects the YSB’s collective influence, agency and representation.
- How to co-create principles that ensure fairness, transparency, accountability, professionalism, learning, solidarity, respect for diversity and inclusivity in the
- How they connect with and execute their vision and mission individually as leaders and collectively as the YSB to guide their actions and shared purpose.
4. Scope of Work and Terms of Reference
The consultant will be expected to:
- Design a full-day facilitation plan in collaboration with the planning team, incorporating wellness, reflection, movement, creativity, and group dialogue.
- Lead interactive and reflective sessions that support the YSB in exploring collaboration, partnership, decision-making and team dynamics in ways that are trauma-informed, healing-centered, feminist, inclusive, and participatory .
- Establish and maintain a safe and inclusive space that respects diversity of identity, experience, and perspective, including setting ground rules, modelling inclusive language, and moderating power dynamics.
- Facilitate team-building activities that foster collaboration, empathy, fun, trust, and shared purpose among members.
- Guide a reflection session on vision, mission, representation, and accountability, encouraging members to connect their individual contributions to the collective mandate of the YSB.
- Observe group dynamics and support open dialogue on patterns, challenges, and strengths that influence group cohesion and collaboration.
- Work closely with the META consortium to ensure alignment between the facilitation and the broader goals of the YSB.
- Participate in planning and debrief sessions with the organizing team before and after the facilitation.
5. Key Deliverables and Outputs.
- A facilitation plan/programme outlining the structure, activities, and methodologies for the full-day session.
- A summary report of the event, highlighting the facilitator’s reflections on key discussions, outcomes, action points, and overall experience. This should include insights on what worked well and suggestions for improvements in future sessions.
6. Required Qualification, Skills, and Competencies.
Academic Qualification
- A degree in psychology, organizational development, social sciences, community care, or related fields.
- Certification in trauma-informed facilitation, wellness coaching, expressive arts therapy, or group facilitation is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience designing and leading team building, wellness, or organizational care sessions.
- Demonstrated experience working with youth, feminist, social justice, or organizations.
- Skilled in creating inclusive, safe, and joyful environments for diverse
Technical Expertise
- Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills, with a grounding in feminist values and trauma-informed practices.
- Skilled in creating safe, inclusive, and enabling environments that respect diversity of identity, experience, and ability.
- Ability to guide both individual and collective reflection on vision, mission, and contributions to shared goals.
- Competence in using creative facilitation tools (storytelling, movement, dialogue, art etc.) to enhance engagement.
- Adaptability to hybrid and multicultural
7. Duration of Assignment.
This assignment will take place over two days: one day dedicated to planning and reporting, and one for facilitating the Youth Sounding Board meeting on 12th November 2025.
8. Liaison, Coordination and Reporting.
The consultant will report to the META Action Coordinator at FEMNET Secretariat and will work closely with the planning committee.
9. Selection of Consultant.
The consultant shall be contracted by FEMNET. The contract will include Withholding Tax (WHT) deduction in line with laws of contracting where FEMNET is headquartered. A WHT certificate will be issued to the consultant. Payment will be done through bank transfer to the consultant bank account. FEMNET will not meet the costs of bank charges. Payment schedule will be agreed upon with the consultant upon successful selection. In case of team/firm applicants, a designated assignment contract manager will be the contact between FEMNET and the team and responsible for all deliverables.
10. Intellectual Property Rights.
The consultant expressly assigns to FEMNET any copyright arising from the outputs produced while executing the service contract. The consultant may not use, reproduce, disseminate, or authorize others to use, reproduce or disseminate any output produced under the service contract without prior consent from FEMNET.
11. Terms of Service.
This is a non-staff contract and therefore the consultant is not entitled to insurance, medical cover or any other status or conditions as FEMNET staff.
