The Africa Climate Summit 2023

The inaugural Africa Climate Summit took place from 4th to 6th September,2023 in Nairobi, Kenya. The summit mobilized heads of government, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, grassroot communities and African youths to discuss ways to deliver innovative green growth and climate finance solutions. Under the theme: “Driving green growth for climate finance solutions for Africa and the world,” most of the conversations were focused on climate adaptation and the surrounding themes of fossil fuels, nature, and food. Africa Climate summit preceded several key events such as the Africa Climate Week, the International Climate and energy conference in Madrid, the World Bank Annual Meeting in Marrakech, and the Green Climate Fund replenishment conference in Bonn and finally COP 28 in November this year.

The Nairobi Declaration during the Africa Climate summit made a strong push for accelerating climate action and financing mechanisms which will be the basis for Africa’s common position for COP28 and beyond.
